HONOLULU, HAWAI’I — A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly threatening to kill two private security officers while pointing a knife at them from a second-floor window of a building in downtown Honolulu, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Officers assigned to the department's District 1 patrol division responded to 1136 Bishop Street at approximately 4:13 p.m. on October 13 following reports of an armed threat involving security personnel.

According to police, the suspect allegedly positioned himself at an open window on the building's second floor, pointed a knife toward the two security officers and threatened to kill them.

The circumstances leading up to the confrontation were not immediately disclosed, including whether the security officers had previously interacted with the suspect or were responding to a disturbance at the property.

Following the reported threats, responding officers located and positively identified the suspect.

Police subsequently arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening. Authorities also confirmed that he was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant.

The suspect's identity, age and the nature of the outstanding warrant were not included in the department's initial public statement.

The incident highlights the potential dangers private security personnel may encounter while working at commercial and residential properties, particularly when confrontations involve individuals allegedly armed with weapons.

Unlike sworn law enforcement officers, private security personnel generally operate under different legal authorities, training requirements and equipment policies, making early threat recognition and coordination with police important components of security operations.

In this case, Honolulu Police confirmed that the reported confrontation ended with the suspect's arrest.

The investigation and any related court proceedings remain subject to further updates.
