SEATTLE, WASHINGTON — A 36-year-old nightclub security worker was killed and a woman was seriously injured early Sunday morning after a gunman opened fire from a vehicle in the parking lot of a South Seattle nightclub, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Oct. 11 in the 5800 block of 4th Avenue South, where multiple callers contacted 911 to report gunfire near a nightclub.

Responding officers arrived at the business and discovered a 36-year-old man who worked security for the establishment. The man had suffered fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a 27-year-old woman, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.

Officers provided emergency medical assistance until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived. The woman was subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

According to investigators, surveillance footage revealed that a vehicle entered the nightclub's parking lot before the driver fired multiple gunshots from inside the vehicle.

The suspected gunman then fled the area in the vehicle.

Less than an hour after the shooting, authorities located a vehicle believed to have been involved in the attack fully engulfed in flames elsewhere in South Seattle.

Police have not disclosed the exact location where the burning vehicle was recovered or whether investigators believe the fire was intentionally set.

Detectives assigned to the Seattle Police Department's Homicide Unit responded to the nightclub alongside crime scene investigators to collect evidence and reconstruct the events surrounding the shooting.

The circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear. Authorities have not publicly identified the deceased security worker, disclosed a possible motive or announced an arrest.

Police have also not released the name of the nightclub or indicated whether the security worker was employed directly by the establishment or through a private security contractor.

Investigators are continuing to review evidence, including surveillance footage, as they work to identify the person responsible.

The Seattle Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting, the suspected vehicle or possible suspects to contact its Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.

The investigation remains ongoing.
